Ingredients
Cupcakes
- 1 cup / 237 mL sugar
- ½ cup / 125 mL butter
- 3 egg yolks
- 3 egg whites
- 2/3 cup / 150 mL milk
- 2 cups / 475 mL pastry flour (sifted)
- 2 ½ tbsp / 37.5 mL baking powder
- 1 tsp / 5 mL Watkins All Natural Original Gourmet Baking Vanilla
Frosting
- 1/2 cup / 237 mL (1 stick) butter, softened
- 8 oz packages cream cheese, softened
- 3 cups / 710 ml powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. / 5 mL Watkins All Natural Original Gourmet Baking Vanilla
- Watkins Red Food Coloring
- Watkins Red Decorating Sugar
Directions
Cupcakes:
- Cream butter, slowly adding sugar, then beaten egg yolks.
- Alternately add milk and flour, baking powder, sifted together several times, then well beaten egg whites and flavoring.
- Bake 25 minutes in 375°F/190°C oven; buttered tins.
Frosting:
- In a large bowl, beat together butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
- Transfer about 1/3 of the frosting to a smaller bowl.
- Add Watkins Red Food Coloring to the remaining 2/3 frosting in the bowl and beat until evenly distributed.
- Pipe red frosting onto cupcakes in a conical shape to mimic a Santa hat.
- Sprinkle with red sanding sugar.
- Use a smaller star tip to pipe the white frosting around the edges.
